How do you pick your leaders?

Is there a system to spot good leadership qualities?

Here is an all too-common scenario.  Let’s stand two people in front of a group and give each of those people an hour to narrate about themselves and specifically, to describe why that group should chose them to be their leader. Sound familiar?

What qualities would you look for?  What criteria would you pick out of that one hour talk which would make you decide on the choice of leader for you? Would it be their accomplishments; their personality or their promises and platform?

History shows that groups, companies and even whole nations have often elevated people to leadership roles who then proceeded to tear that activity down. Why?
